John Bennett (n4xi) > Sunset on Christmas Day, 25 Dec 2008. On Main Street in Poseyville, IN looking west.
John Bennett (n4xi) > Mother "opening" presents on 25 December 2008. She cannot manage wrapped gifts anymore. She can, on occasion, get something out of a gift bag, but she has trouble knowing that there is a gift there. She's more interested in the tissue paper! The nurse's name is Donna and is with Mother most of the day.
John Bennett (n4xi) > Mother finishing up her Christmas dinner. She eats, perhaps too well. She's really getting chubby.
John Bennett (n4xi) > The new Production Edit Suite. We had one before - in the second production control room, but was not well suited for clients to sit in on an edit session. The monitors were too small, and were SD. Since we were doing more and more HD content, I felt we needed something better. This is the result. We now have a 5.1 Dolby Surround sound system in addition to the 42" plasma pictured. The editing station is elevated off the floor and is lit with track lighting. This effectively gives the editor plenty of light to see and yet keeps the room dark, making for a better viewing experience for the client. This was Master Control for WEVV before the new MC was built.
John Bennett (n4xi) > Master Control also houses the terminal for the Ingest Server (up to three channels of SD can be ingested simultaneously) as well as the MC workstation. The server is also used to segment the analog (SD) content. Using a KVM switch, the terminal on the right is used for the MC workstation as well as the ASI/HD record server. Recording and segmenting HD content is performed on this terminal. MC control has found that having the SD and HD segmenter terminals side-by-side has proven to be very useful.
John Bennett (n4xi) > The original Master Control was actually split up into two different areas requiring one operator to constantly run back and forth. Additionally, tape machines used for air and recording were scattered everywhere. The new Master Control centralizes the control of both stations into one area. The 30+ monitors in the original Master Control were shot. They have been replaced by two 42" plasma displays driven by a pair of Evertz display multiplexers. The flexibility has allowed us to re-arrange, add and delete monitors as needed. Program and demods are on the LH display while monitoring for records or other purposes is on the RH display. Several inputs to the RH display are routable which allows MC to pull up any source in the plant. Both stations have programmable inputs from the router available on the air switchers. This allows routing any source within the plant to air. Audio and NTSC video monitoring plus the ability to remote control any three VTRs in the Tech Center complete the installation.
